Its not the end of the world :)

So I guess I kind of overreacted yesterday, I was having a pretty bad day already so the news hit me harder than they normally would have. I need to remember that:

1) Noone has told me I cant go to Shanghai yet
and
2) If I cant go there its not the end of the world

If I dont get in I can either just go wherever they say I can go, wich probably wont be all bad considering all the awesome unis we can go to, or I can stay here in Norway, fix my grades and apply again next year.. either way, Ill survive.
If I was to go to say, Barcelona and not Shanghai it wouldnt be all bad. It would be a whole lot easier for my friends and family to go visit me, it would be easier for me to go home whenever I wanted and the climate is so much better.
And sure I know some chinese, but I actually studied spanish in high school as well, so learning it again wouldnt be that hard at all! And Barcelona is such a great city, I went there on vacation with my family a couple of years ago and I really loved it. Just look at this church - La Sagrada Familia, not as if Shanghai has anything like it.
The other schools I applied to in Singapore, Leeds and Mannheim are also all great schools, really I shouldnt have painted the world black yesterday.
Besides, noone even said I didnt make it, they just said it would be hard - maybe Im actually getting in, who knows. And now if I dont, at least I know that it was really hard and thats why.
And yes, sure I want to work with East Asia - but I already know japanese and some chinese, a degree in International Marketing will be a plus no matter where I go.
If I dont get to study in Shanghai I will have to deal with that when it happens, but yesterday I was forgetting it didnt happen yet. I dont know whats more important to BI when they decide who gets to go, maybe I aced the Letter of Motivation and my degree in Asian languages blew them away - maybe they decide whoever failed any subject at all wont get to go.. either way theres nothing I can do about it now. I'll try to forget all about it untill I know what happens. Will be hard, but Im going to try and think about other things, like today my friends are coming over and we're going to have a great time! :)

Bad news :(

I just got home from my lecture in International Marketing. Apparently the teacher had information about who applied to what countries next year, and he decided to share. We all thought the most popular destinations would be Singapore and New York, but as it turns out its actually Shanghai the most people applied for. Apparently it was about 50 applicants and they only have 20 or 30 spots, not sure what he said. The news hit me pretty hard, felt as if someone had punched me in the face. Now I feel as if I dont have a chance in hell of getting in where I want, and it really upsets me. I have wanted to go to China to study since before I even enrolled here at BI, as its the natural move after studying Japanese and Chinese. I want to work with East Asia, the only reason I decided to study International Marketing rather than stick with Japanese and Chinese was that I felt it would give me a better chance of finding a job. I have tried to make myself care less about what country Im going to next year, but right now China is the only place I want to go. In fact Im considering to stay in Oslo and improve my grades for a year if I dont get accepted. We also got a letter from the head of the International Marketing Programme, saying that she can contact us by phone or e-mail to talk about alternative universities. So now Im just waiting on an e-mail saying "sorry your not good enough why dont you go study some place else, like the North Pole?"
And yes, I know Im taking the news a bit too hard - might be Im just having a bad day. After all, all of the universities looks awesome.. it just doesn't feel right for me to go anywhere else. Damn I just want to know already, the worrying is making me sick.

A great weeekend - part 3

(I just got home from a really awesome weekend of hanging out with old friends. I have tons and tons of things I want to blog about, and if I put it all in one post that post would most likely take up about 3-5 pages. Thats why I decided to split it up into days- heres the post about sunday :))

Sunday was the slackest of the days really. The first time we woke up I felt like hell, but luckily we decided to sleep for a little while longer. We slept untill about 12 or 13 I think, then we basicly just talked, played videogames and ate pizza for a few hours. Today Lene joined us again as well, she was working saturday sadly. In the evening we went to the movies with The Shadow Project, that club Luna made me join a few days ago. I got to say Im glad I joined, we got to the cinema and registrered on the list, and voila - we had our tickets. Now that Im a gold member I can basicly just join all the movies for the rest of the year, as they are included. The movie we went to was Disneys new animated movie - Tangled. We got to see it in english, (the original language thank god) - but with no subtitles. The movie was pretty awesome, it was a modern version of the fairytale Rapunzel. I know its a childrens movie, but we had tons of fun with it as well - a lot of good jokes, funny characters, etc - I absolutely think it was worth seeing. My favorite character was Maximus - hes a horse that can do all sorts of things, like fence with a sword in his mule and run at the speed of light :P
After the movie, once again, we went back to Luna and Lenes place. This evening we took things a bit easier than saturday and played some Munchkin and Che Geek. At midnight Maja was 22, so we sang the birthday song for her and gave her the gift, she really liked it :)
I chickened out early and went to sleep at about 1.30 am, but apparently everyone else stayed up untill 4 AM - dont know how they do it. Today we woke up pretty early, as Luna and Maja had school. I took the subway with Luna so I could go home and finish my part of the assignment in Business to Business Marketing, then I somehow forgot the time and missed my late lecture on International Marketing - ah well I'll do better tomorrow. And that concludes the triology about my great weekend :P I had an awesome time, it was really awesome to hang out with the old gang again - I didnt realise how much I've missed them. Their all so easy to be arround, and I dont have to make any effort at all to fit in. I have to get better at staying in touch with them from now on! Now Im going to the gym, I only worked out 2 times last week, that means I should work out 4 times this week to get back on track with my stickers so I can win that cap :P

Saturday started with a trip to Oslo, the plan was to somehow ditch Maja and get her a birthday present. We successfully convinced her that she needed a dress for the parties we were going to in the evening, but making her go get the dress on the way down to Oslo was harder. She felt it was more convinient to get it on our way back up to Luna and Lenes, and as she was actually right it proved really hard to convince her to go get the dress before we went to Oslo so we could buy a present before she got there. Luckily Camilla and me randomly ended up walking too quickly and lost Maja and Luna, Luna called us and told us to go get Maja a game while she kept her at a different store - so we ran to Gamestop and got her the new Assasins Creed game. We also got shoes, clothes and supplies for the rest of the weekend. When we got back we barely had time to eat before we had to head out again. We went to two different parties, one with out old chinese class and one with Lunas new japanese class.
The first party was at Benedictes place and was basicly to celebrate the chinese new year. It was nice to meet everyone again, and I also made some new friends as they had invited some exchange students from China. Apparently I should go study in Beijing rather than Shanghai, but when I told them that wasnt an option they said Shanghai is nice as well. After a few hours we left for the next party, the one with Lunas japanese class.
It was fun to see how similar they actually are to the class I was a part of in 2007, same style, same japanese expressions mixed into the conversation etc etc. We stayed at the party untill about 4 AM then took the nightbus back up to Kringsjå. We stayed up and talked for at least an hour and I dont think we fell asleep untill 6-7 AM, awesome night.

A great weeekend - part 1

(I just got home from a really awesome weekend of hanging out with old friends. I have tons and tons of things I want to blog about, and if I put it all in one post that post would most likely take up about 3-5 pages. Thats why I decided to split it up into days- heres the post about friday :))

I started the day with a trip to the hairdresser, to color and cut my hair. I normally just color my own hair with some random haircolor from the store, but I decided I dont want red hair anymore and after trying to change the color myself for some time I eventually ended up going to the hairdresser. Apparently the red color from the store is really hard to get out again, so my big plan about light golden brown will have to wait for a few months. For now we did brown with light highlights and the red is all gone so Im really happy anyway. Next time we can make it a little lighter and add some more highlights :)
When I was done at the hairdresser I met up with Kaja, or actually she came there and met me because it ended up taking a bit over 2 hours because it was two different colors and a haircut. We went for cofee and then we got a few things from H&M before heading to my place. I packed all my stuff for the rest of the weekend and then we headed out to Lillestrøm where Kaja and Stian lives. Stian has the greatest hobby ever, he beads nintendo figures! He made me a toad one and a red mushroom one, both from the mario game :) If you want one too he says he can sell them so just contact me and I can contact him.
Then Kaja made us dinner and we watched Disneys Pinochio, its a really sweet movie but we kind of ruined it a bit with our comments about how we wonder why the grasshopper can breathe under water etc..
I couldnt stay that long at Kaja and Stians though as I had plans to stay with Luna and Lene at Kringsjå for the rest of the weekend. I met up with them in Oslo about 22.30 and we went up to their place together with Maja and Camilla. Then I had another dinner with them (who doesnt love having two dinners?), and we stayed up and talked for a while. Lene and I watched a lot of old pictures and movies from when we went to Japan in 2009 on vacation, really made me miss the place - I definetly have to go back there again sometime soon. If I get accepted to the uni in China it will be easy I guess, but even if I dont I just have to go back to Japan and meet up with my friends that live there and just experience all of my favorite places there again. This might be a little random, but here are the two videos from my last stay there I like the best, I hope you all think their as funny as I do. The top one is from when we met up with Koichi, a friend of my uncles, in Kyoto. When he realised Lene was filming he decided to have some wasabi (the really strong green stuff you mix in the soya when you eat sushi) and well it didnt go so well, but the movie is awesome. The second one is from our hotel in Tokyo, they had these pretty scary massage machines and of course I had to try one..

Randomness

Today was a pretty slack day for me, hardly did anything at all because I got a cold and Im growing a wisdom tooth :P
Victoria came over though (couldnt just watch tv alone all day long) and we made dinner, watched TV and talked. I also showed her Piknic.com. Piknic is a pretty awesome online free picture editor, found it on JJs Blog. First I helped Victoria her fix her profile picture on facebook, then we decided to make a friendship collage while we were at it (as the 14year old wannabes we are.. oh wait we're both in our 20s - what went wrong?). The weekend looks like it will be a lot more eventfull than today. Tomorrow Im going to the hairdresser to cut and color my hair - Im so nervous! Then Im going to Kaja and Stians place for dinner, before Im going to Lunas to stay there untill sunday I think the plan is.. Camilla is coming in from Bodø to stay there, and as Luna found a discount on camping beds at IKEA so she got plenty of sleeping space. Thats how she ended up inviting Maja and me as well. Expect a looong blog entry on monday ^^

One long day (and one long blog entry)

Today I finally managed what I've failed to accomplish the last 3 weeks, to not oversleep for english class. Yay me! :P I was pretty embarrassed to show up after not showing up all this time, but as it turned out I wasnt the only one. Two of my friends at school also showed up for the first time today, and so did some other students, so it actually wasnt too bad. As it turned out today was a pretty important day as well, as we negotiated the first of 4 cases that we can get on the final in april. We were divided into groups and given a side in a conflict between management on one side, and a delegation protecting the employees interests on the other. We were discussing wether or not to start using home offices. Then we met a group from the other side and tried to come to an agreement. At first I really didnt think I would be all that active, but when we started to negotiate I ended up talking a lot - as I just couldnt keep my opinions to myself. The other group seemed pretty annoyed with us and we even had a time-out at one point, but in the end we managed to meet mid way and come to an agreement. We would try out home offices for 3 days a week and buy a smaller office. I didnt think I would have so much fun with this, but I actually had. I guess thats a good thing considering the job I migth end up with is likely to include real negotiations. I was going to stay at school and study untill the late lecture in International Marketing - but I simply couldnt live with myself without taking a shower, so I went home to do that.
In International Marketing it was all about negotiations today as well. 15 of my classmates negotiated a case the same way we will be doing at the final, so we could all learn from their mistakes. It was kind of slack for me as I didnt volunteer for it. Guess I should have joined the discussion to practise for my final, but I just didnt feel like talking in front of the rest of the class, we're about 100 students.
After school more than anything I wanted to just go home and sleep, but my plan was to go to the gym so I did. They have a new contest now - called Målsvettet. Basicly work out 12 times in february and get a free cap. Work out more than 12 times and get the chance to win 1000 NOK (thats 126 euros). I think working towards something might be good to keep me motivated, even if what Im working towards is a cap. So I signed my name on the list, and when I was done working out I got a sticker to put next to it. Kind of felt as if I was back in Kindergarden or something, but it was actually kind of motivating as well. In order to work out 12 times in february I guess I should aim for 3 times a week, that should actually be very doable considering I live pretty close to the gym, and I guess it would probably be really good for me as well - and get me better results than just 2 times a week like I was planning on to begin with.
When I got home my friend Luna called and asked if I wanted to join a trip to the movies next sunday, I would have to join a club - but the club actually seems pretty cool so I decided to go for it. Its called TSP - The Shadow Project. The club is for going to the movies (cheaper than if you go by yourself) and also some other events called cons. Seems pretty cool and joining it and paying for one ticket to the movies is actually cheaper than a regular ticket to the movies so its a win. If anyone else want to join you can go to this site.
